Forge's installer can't run on the server, so you install the server on your computer, then upload it.
Before you start
Switching from Paper? Back up your world first, because a Paper world may not load on Forge. See Back up and restore your server. Then stop your server. You also need Java installed on your computer.
Download Forge
- Go to https://files.minecraftforge.net, and pick your Minecraft version on the left.
- Click Installer. You may see an advert page first: wait a few seconds, then click Skip.
Install the server on your computer
- Make an empty folder.
- Double-click the installer, choose Install server, and pick that folder.
- When it says it installed successfully, open the folder.
- Select everything inside it, and zip it.
Upload it to your server
- In your panel, open Server Files, and rename the old
server.jarto something likeserver-old.jar. - Click Upload, and choose your zip. It's quite big, so it may take a minute. Over 1 GB? Use FileZilla.
- Right-click the zip, and choose Unzip.
- Find the file ending in
-shim.jar, and rename it toserver.jar. - Start your server. In the console, you'll see it starting up with Forge.
Once it works, you can delete server-old.jar and the zip. Then add your mods to the mods folder.
