Pre-generate your world

When players explore, your server has to build new land, and that causes lag. Pre-generating builds it in advance, so exploring is smooth.

Before you start

You need the free Chunky plugin on a Paper or Purpur server. Install it from the Plugins page, or see Add a plugin manually. On Fabric, Forge or NeoForge, use the Chunky mod instead. The commands are the same.

Pre-generate your world

1. Open Console.
2. Choose how far out to generate. Type chunky radius and a number of blocks, like chunky radius 2000.
3. Type chunky start.

Chunky shows its progress as it goes. It keeps running even if you close the panel.

Handy commands

• chunky pause: pause it
• chunky continue: carry on where it left off

How big?

• chunky radius 2000: good for most servers
• chunky radius 5000: bigger worlds, takes longer

A bigger radius takes longer, and uses more disk space.
