Update: July 28th 2024

We ask all clients to read this in full to avoid any backup deletion.

We have pushed a update that has rehauled the backups system that our control panel currently has. The following announcement should cover most of your FAQ's, including what has changed - however if you are still unsure or have any questions, please do contact us via Support Ticket or our Discord server.

What's changed?

There are two types of backups available in the backups tab in your control panel. The top, which are manual backups that you are manually able to create, restore, lock and delete at anytime, and the automatic backups, which our panel automatically takes everyday at 1AM UTC of your server for up to 3 days. This is designed as a 'fallback' and is a feature that is available to all of our clients at no additional cost.

These are stored off-site in a location in the NA, and as a result, has meant that manual backups have become quiet slow to create, restore and download for those especially not near NA. We also noticed that in rare instances, some backups were timing out and failing - with some reporting that they were created successfully in the panel even if they timed out - we were alerted to this issue this week and therefore have pushed this change to prevent any further issues. Therefore, we are happy to announce that all manual backups are now created local to your server location directly within your server. This means creating backups should be super quick, and equally, restoring and downloading them will be super fast now that its all local - rather than extracting it off-site from the West Coast in America. It also means its robust, meaning there is virtually zero chance of any backups timing out and failing.

We hope this will make for a better experience for all of our clients, as backups is something that we do regularly push!

Clients with 50GB+ Storage

This does however have a slight change for those with larger file sizes. If your servers storage is equal to or exceeds 50GB then there are some changes to follow within the next 7 days.

  • Automatic backups will be temporarily paused.
  • Manual backup slots reduced

We ask the small % of clients that are in this group (Its less than 1% of total clients) to reach out via Support Ticket or Discord to us so we can ensure you are on a node with ample space. This means we can restore your manual backup slots to the regular amount for you.

We have noticed that clients with this size of storage frequently have their automatic backups fail due to them timing out or taking too long , which is not ideal We are looking at a fix for this, and equally as these systems are provided at no extra cost, we are trying to ensure we can have the new system implemented as best as we can whilst being able to sustain our systems for you.

What about my existing backups?

All automatic backups should be working fine without any changes whatsoever - you do not need to make any changes.

For manual backups, any existing backups will remain on our off-site system until the 18th August 2024 - however we would encourage all clients to download a copy before these are rolled off. If you encounter issues downloading your existing manual backups, please contact our Support and we will be able to send you a download link to them.

We will always emphasise that clients are responsible for keeping and maintaining their own backups, we try encourage creating them where possible however its always best to keep a local copy too. See our guide here on how to easily upload/download files between your Minecraft server and computer.

We do not intend on clearing any existing backups from the off-site system until Mid August to allow plenty of time for you to download any existing old backups you would like to retain.

Any new backups created will be stored on the new local system from July 28th 12:55AM UTC and therefore you do not need to worry, these will not be cleared or deleted ever.
