Set up Simple Voice Chat

Plugins · Updated 27 October 2026

Simple Voice Chat lets players talk to each other in game. It needs its own port, which takes a couple of minutes to set up.

On a Paper or Purpur server

  1. Download the plugin from Modrinth. Choose your Minecraft version and Paper, then click the download button next to the newest version.
  2. In your panel, open Server Files, then the plugins folder.
  3. Click Upload, and choose the voice chat file you just downloaded.
  4. Restart your server. This loads the plugin, and creates its settings file.
  5. Open Ports, and click Create Allocation. A new port appears in the list. Remember this number.
  6. Go back to Server Files, and open plugins › voicechat › voicechat-server.properties.
  7. Find the line that starts with port=, and change the number to your new port.
  8. Click Save Content.
  9. Restart your server once more. Voice chat is now running on its own port.

On a Fabric, Forge or NeoForge server

  1. Download the mod from Modrinth, for your Minecraft version and mod loader.
  2. Open Server Files, then the mods folder, and upload it.
  3. Restart your server, so the mod creates its settings.
  4. Stop your server. On modded servers, the settings file must be edited while the server is stopped, or it gets overwritten.
  5. Open Ports, click Create Allocation, and remember the new port number.
  6. Open Server Files › config › voicechat › voicechat-server.properties.
  7. Change the number after port= to your new port, then click Save Content.
  8. Start your server.

Your players need the mod

Every player also needs the Simple Voice Chat mod on their own game (Fabric, Forge or NeoForge), from Modrinth or CurseForge. Once they join, they can press V to open the voice chat settings.
